just another monday morning (or afternoon)

by earthmama101 on February 20, 2012

Ah, I am here. I am! This week has been hectic with sickness, and rescheduling, and last minute play dates for people not sick, celebrations of various shapes and sizes, and much needed time spent with family. It was my mom’s birthday this past week, and my sister crocheted her a cupcake! You have no idea how exciting that is to me! That my sister…is now on ravelry and is embarking on the crafty creating life that I love so much! Very exciting to me.

As for me…I’ve been working with someone super cool, to update this space of mine…to refresh it…give it a new life of it’s own…to get it ready for a clean start…clean slate, or something like that. On so many levels I am ready to physically move on and I think this additional change just mirrors that energetic shift in some way. NOTE: Google Friend Connect will no longer be connecting fun blogs like this one, so…please take a minute to subscribe to Feed Burner up at the top of my page…or follow me on twitter. Those two seem to be the best options for now. Silly how computer stuff has to change like that! But I think Google has much larger plans at attempting to rule the world…or at least online spaces, making fine lines on who gets to stay and who doesn’t.

But anyways, the days are ticking down till our move date…two weeks and five days to be exact…and with each one we get more excited. I made Hawthorn and Bella an advent calendar-ish countdown chart. So they check off each day so they can see how close we are till the big day. I think that helped a lot because I don’t hear the, “How long till we move?” question every five seconds anymore.

I am finished my five hour baby sweater (just need to add some buttons). I love it and will most likely knit up another one. Although it is hard to keep track time wise of how long something takes me, with putting it down, picking it up, putting it down…you know how it goes…all I can say that is was a quick progress sweater. I don’t know about five hours, but probably pretty close. I learned how to do a slip stitch seam on the sleeves (shown in that first picture up there), which was new to me. It gives a really good solid sleeve construction though. Thanks to You Tube and a video I found on how to crochet one…I learned something new, which always makes a knitting project even more exciting to me. I did find the need to make some minor additions and adjustments to the pattern and will post my notes on my Ravelry page soon. I took the opportunity last week to update my page over there with some of my past projects.

I would love to know of any kid or adult size sweaters that are knit in the same way; neck down, each sleeve, and then the rest. I am new to sweater making, but this knit has me inspired to remedy that. So…if you have any leads of sweaters for larger human beings…leave me some ideas  in the comments. I’d so appreciate it! I look forward to being back in this space this week.

the sweater is adorable! And I think y our idea to make the kids a countdown calendar is fab. The visual helps so much, and I bet it will also help them prepare emotionally, too. You’re such a good mama, Lisa.

If you want an easy top down one piece adult sweater, the shalom cardigan was a fun beginner project for me knitting adult type clothes. I saw the February lady sweater in the comments- another easy one. Honestly, if you just understand the concept of raglan sweaters, they’re appallingly easy to put together. I use dpns so I don’t even have to use stitch markers. I’d try looking up “easy raglan sweaters” on ravelry. Once you figure it out, I bet you’ll be in love with them. You can fancy them up, make the sleeves puffy, use stripes to teen-ify it. Obviously , I’m gushing here. Beautiful blog, by the way. I just found you through Heather’s whole food kitchen workshop post. I love your yarn choices!

So sweet! I love the Green Mt Spinnery raglan, knit top down in the same sort of style. Their book has it with sizes from baby to adult mens and womens, which is very handy. Best of luck getting ready for moving day!

I am just this week finishing my first ever knit sweater (cardigan). The annabell pattern from quince and company. Very very easy knit. I highly recommend it. Finished in about two and a half weeks.

I linked to your blog from Ravelry. I was loading my Five Hour Baby Sweater onto Ravelry this morning and saw that you loaded yours at the same time. We started knitting it on the same day too…how’s that for coincidence? Love your sweater, it’s so squishy soft looking.

You were asking about other easy to follow sweater patterns. In the last year or so I’ve been knitting lots of sweaters for my family of seven. I have found the Diane Soucy patterns (Knitting Pure and Simple) to be easy to follow and easy to adapt, if you choose to customize your sweater. I am purplepickle on Ravelry. Also, I tackled a Baby Surprise Jacket for my toddler a few months ago and it was so much easier than I thought.

Good luck!

That is a coincidence! I used an organic yarn for mine that was kind of inconsistent in thickness, which created a very nice natural looking effect on the sweater.

I have knit the baby suprise jacket in the past too, but it took me so long. I loved that this sweater was such a quick knit. I will look up that pattern on ravelry. Thanks for the recomendation! And Im loving hearing from other families of 7…given we will be one soon too!

The February Lady sweater is knit like that. It went really fast for me (2.5 weeks) and is such a lovely pattern. Give it a try! I know you won’t regret it. :)

Something that could possibly only take me 2.5 weeks sounds like exactlly what I am looking for. Thanks so much for the recomendation! It seems like this is a popular knitting project.

The February Lady Sweater. Its free and one of the most (if not, the most) popular sweaters on Ravelry. Don’t let the lace scare you. I knit it myself last year and loved the top down raglan style. Very fast and fun.

Ohhh…then I will have to hop on there and put it in my project idea list then. Thanks for the recommendation…and for your advice on the lace, b/c yes, that might totally scare me away!
