knitting along

by earthmama101 on February 8, 2012

I just started knitting The Five Hour Baby Sweater with some beautiful merino from Brambleberry Yarns. I LOVE Cynthia’s yarn…I guess I really just love all yarn, and fiber, and fabric. You know how sometimes that fact just really becomes overly apparent, while at other times you are too busy to notice? Or maybe that’s just me. That’s one thing I’m kinda looking forward to packing up….my yarn stash…and going through it all all looking and seeing what I have…then come the ideas. I guess you could probablly guess why I’m knitting a baby sweater, but I might not be ready to tell you…or maybe I already am in a sly little way. Someone very small will be joining our clan late summer.

On another note, people are coming to look at our house this morning, which seems weird to me. I wonder if they checked the papers that stated there is no hot water or heat in the house, or maybe we’ll be lucky because besides the fact that our neighborhood sucks, we most likely have the nicest house for sale in our town for the price it’s listed as. It would be great if it turned out to be a simple process.

As far as reading…that area of coverage has become a bit choppy for me at least. It’s a few pages from this book, some ideas spring up, and onto few pages of that book. We’ve got lots of planning to do and until we are getting our hands dirty…it’s the books that are keeping it all real. For now they are piled on the kitchen table, however I’ll most likely sweep them into a box, or the car, or somewhere right before the showing. In no particular order:

~The Backyard Berry Book: A Hands-On Guide to Growing Berries, Brambles, and Vine Fruit in the Home Garden Currently there are 3/4 acres raspberries planted where we are moving, but we have plans, BIG plans, that include more berries.

~The Joy of Keeping Farm Animals While we definitely have chickens on the list, someday I dream of having some sheep. There’s always possibilities…and room for dreaming.

~Carrots Love Tomatoes: Secrets of Companion Planting for Successful Gardening I LOVE Louise Riotte. And this book is great…so informative, and I like how there are sample garden plans in the back.

~Farm Anatomy: The Curious Parts and Pieces of Country Life This one, is an aesthetic love, and kinda reminds me of a zine. However, the dandelion wine…it looks fun to make and has ideas swarming about my head.

~Perennial Vegetables: From Artichokes to Zuiki Taro, A Gardener’s Guide to Over 100 Delicious and Easy to Grow Edibles This one is Jason’s idea maker. He can’t wait to try some things out that he learned from Eric Toensmeier and put a edible perennial garden in the ground.

~Back to Basics: A Complete Guide to Traditional Skills, Third Edition This is just one of those books that kinda covers everything you can think of for homesteading, hence the title I guess.

~Rodale’s Ultimate Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening: The Indispensable Green Resource for Every Gardener Indispensable…yup, I guess it’s kinda like the bible for gardening.

~Four-Season Harvest: Organic Vegetables from Your Home Garden All Year Long And last but not least…four season gardening…something every gardener shoudl take advantage of. We’ve experienced the advantages of it…and I am dreaming of bigger and better ways for this season.

Joining Ginny…and so thankful for her wonderful knit along to give me something to think about!

life sounds wonderful lisa :)

I'm happily catching up here, I read only once per week or so, just a handful of blogs, so it takes awhile 'til things come around again. So much newness while I read here! First, congratulations on a new light shining within you and arriving earthside in late summer. Wow. Snd second…what wonderful news about a new home, did you buy a farm/homestead?

I can't wait to see it all unfold for you! We are still happy where we are, and now that spring is near, i'll likely be on the computer even less. The days outdoors are just so full. You are going to have your arms and heart very full this year, so good!

Oh, I loved this pattern, though I made it for another mama-to-be (it knit up in about 7 hours). I'm farmgrl on Ravelry if you want to connect — and see my take on the sweater :)
I love your stack of books — I have many of those myself. And congrats on all your lovely new beginnings!

Congrats on the little one! How wonderful! I had one late summer, and boy, was that the hottest summer of my life :) Well worth it, though! I have a 3 month old and I just want to knit everything for her.

Oooh, how exciting! So many new things going on with you! Lately, every time I see a baby I get that tug! But we were so firm on two kids. Or are we? Exciting, exciting!

I adore your stack of books ! Carrots love tomatoes is open by my husband's chair and I see him reading it constantly. You have a few titles there I don't recognize so I'm off to get a more indepth look.
Happy Yarn Along.

I love the colour of yarn you selected. I really wish I could knit. I've tried to teach myself but I think it's something that is learned better if someone coaches you through it the first few times.

You have the most colourful pile of books. You make me yearn for spring/summer.

Wishing you a delightful day!
