The start to this year feels good. It feels promising. And you know what, I think I figured out another clue to my winter blues. As an avid picture taker, who enjoys taking lots and lots of photographs using nothing but natural light…well, it turns out (as if I never knew) that winter is severely lacking in the available light department. So, as the light dwindled down down down…I took less and less pictures. To the point of not touching my camera for days, almost weeks, which is just so unlike me. My photos are what is the life behind this blog here. When there are no photos…I have a very hard time writing. I need photos…and to take pictures…each and every day. It is one of my passions…finding the little things…and my camera is my tool that enables me to do that…and capture it all. So light or no light…I am making it one of my goals for this year, to remember to take pictures every day, which wont be hard for me, except maybe challenging…just needing to find creativity for that lack of light.
To keep my goal in focus, I’ve decided to participate in the 365 project on flickr this year…although, did you know that this year is a leap year, which makes it a 366 day year? The 366 project just doesn’t sound right to me, so I’ll still call it the 365 project.
Our first day of this year we spent over at a special place we have nearby, Longwood Gardens…a perfect place to take pictures, to meander about, hang out in the children’s garden, and putz around in the pouring rain for a few hours. The rain was a suprise…even the weather channel didn’t see it coming apparently, so we got wet, but it all worked out okay anyways. Lake went to bed early, we ate leftovers for dinner, it was a good day.

Longwood gardens are just beautiful. The thing I can't get over is how much your children have grown. I must stop blinking. Everyone's children seem to get taller and older when I do. So glad you had a wonderful holiday season. Happy New Year!
The gardens are beautiful! I love that you have Moravian stars where you are too.
Happy New Year! It looks like you had a grand time!
I am the EXACT same way about picture taking! This year I finally taught myself how to take proper low-light/night time/ candle light shots and I am having so much fun doing it that this past week or two I went through my photos and they were almost all night shots
Thanks for the 365 link!
The pictures are beautiful and filled with light! I feel as though I've been on an exotic journey with you, I look forward to more photos where you 'find the light' physically and metaphorically. Happy New Year!
Looks beautiful! Good to hear you've had some insight into the Winter blues and have the means to shake them off.
Your blogs are beautiful. I am going to hire you to help mine not look like turd sandwiches. Love you! talk to you soon. Oh and p.s. I totally emailed Kris Carr today like I had any business doing it. Manifesting us some jobs hahahahaha
I started my 365 project on the 1st of Feb last year meaning I still have another 30 days to go until I complete it…. but I must admit the commitment it involved has been a big positive for me in these dark, natural light starved days of winter. I have taken pictures on days and in ways I would never have done if it hadn't been for the desire to complete all 365 days and looking back I am so glad I have managed…not that I don't look forward to a bit of natural light arriving soon! Good luck with your 366, I look forward to to more of your gorgeous images, like those above…hope you find it the blessing I have and wish you all the best in all things in the year ahead..Em x
Oh, how I relate to this reduced ability for natural-light photos. It is SUCH a challenge, and not always a welcome one. It certainly ends up being a time of rest for my camera, though I am left photo bereft. It leaves me unsettled, as taking photos are one of the ways that I celebrate and think through life. I LOVE taking photos. And looking at gorgeous photos like yours.
Blessings…
