We have been spending the past four weeks getting to know this little girl. She is the newest “baby” in the house and I do find I need to remind everyone that she really is still a baby. However, now that she is a full month old we are beginning to take her out of her and her mama’s little den, aka Kayla’s bed, a little more often to aclimate her to the rest of the house.

For the first few weeks the kitten just nursed and slept, and acted very similar to a human baby. Even the rise and fall of her breath matched the rhythm of a newborn human baby’s breath. The mama cat, claimed Kayla’s bed as her “nest” and every night she would take the kitten by the scruff of it’s neck and tote it on up there. Kayla is thrilled to have these slumber parties, with all three cats snuggled around her.

Usually the kittens from a litter huddle together for warmth, but since there was just one kitten, her mama had to stick close by at all times. Sometimes she got a break by burying the kitten next to Kayla’s feet under her covers at night.

Several names have been brought up, Haze, Mittens, Snuggles, Petal, Titty Tat, but nothing has quite stuck so far, so we’ll see. She may wind up with a few different names if we can’t all agree on something. For now though, we are enjoying the antics of this very teeny kitten, who as far as I can tell may just think that Kayla is it’s second mother.
